Benevolent fund

The Physiological Society's Benevolent Fund provides grants and interest-free loans to assist Members of The Society,  staff, and former staff - who by the nature of their employment can be considered to have contributed to the advance of physiology. It also supports those employed at teaching, research and industrial establishments.

Where does our money come from?

The majority of the charitable fund comes from donations made by Members of The Society, and some non-Members. All money donated to the Benevolent Fund goes directly into the charitable account. Due to its association with The Society, the minimal administration costs are absorbed by The Society itself. Therefore every penny you donate goes to help people in need.

Applications for assistance

It is not necessary to be a Member of The Society to receive assistance – anyone who is, or has been employed in the field of physiology is eligible to apply. Individuals are asked to write, in confidence, to any of the Trustees of the Fund; Thelma Lovick (Chair), Rod Dimaline, Mike Spyer, Giovanni Mann, Robert Walker, or Daniela Riccardi, where requests for help will be reviewed. The address is, The Benevolent Fund of The Physiological Society, Peer House, Verulam Street, London WC1X 8LZ.
