Salary Grade 7 - £33,518 to £38,833 per annum

Full-time. Funding is available for three years.

In this role you will conduct research into presynaptic and postsynaptic mechanisms of neuronal excitability.  The primarily techniques are whole cell patch recording and imaging (including immunohistochemistry) with collaborations to integrate molecular methods (RNAseq and use of transgenic mice). The particular focus of the project is to study synaptic transmission between the Calyx of Held giant synapse and its target neuron in the Medial Nucleus of the Trapezoid Body (MNTB). You will take a leading role in developing research to investigate the impact of metabolism on synaptic transmission, in collaboration with other laboratory members.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in neuroscience or a related subject, and have a good background in analysis and experimental design. You will be experienced in whole cell patch recording and have knowledge of presynaptic mechanisms and perhaps auditory processing.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Professor Ian Forsythe on idf@le.ac.uk or 0116 252 2992.

The closing date for this post is midnight on 19 February 2018.
