The UQ Centre for Exercise and Healthy Brain Ageing is a joint venture between QBI and the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences and was established in 2016 with the help of a Philanthropic donation from the Stafford Fox Foundation to QBI.  Further information about the Centre’s project work is available at www.qbi.uq.edu.au/exercisestudy

The successful candidate/s will be working on the funded Project entitled: “Optimising exercise for cognitive function in older adults” as a full-time PhD candidate in the area of exercise, physical activity and brain health, under the supervision of academic staff of the Project team at The University of Queensland. The successful candidate/s will be expected to contribute to data collection, data analysis and publication of results as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Expressions of Interest are invited from outstanding and enthusiastic international and Australian science graduates ideally with a background in clinical exercise physiology, exercise science, physiotherapy or other relevant scientific disciplines. Candidates will have a First Class Honours degree or equivalent and should be eligible for UQ scholarship consideration.  Some expertise in exercise interventions and exercise prescription, particularly in an elderly population would be helpful. Further skills that will be highly considered include health and fitness measurements, physical activity measurement, exercise stress testing experience, blood sampling and biochemical skills. Candidates will have strong communication skills, be an excellent team player and be highly committed to developing their skills as a researcher. Applicants must fulfil the PhD admission criteria for the University of Queensland, including English language requirements, and demonstrate excellent capacity and potential for research. Demonstration of research ability through publication output in peer reviewed international journals is desirable
