UCC wishes to appoint an experienced academic to the role of Lecturer in Physiology. The post-holder shall teach and examine, establish and maintain a competitive research programme, undertake administrative duties and carry out other duties appropriate to the post under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Physiology.

The Department of Physiology (http://www.ucc.ie/en/physiology) is a constituent unit in the School of Medicine, within the College of Medicine and Health at University College Cork. The Department is strongly committed to teaching & learning, with a flagship undergraduate programme (BSc Physiology), and formal contributions to several allied health degree programmes at UCC. The post-holder will be focused on teaching the BSc in Medical and Health Sciences, a new multidisciplinary, research-led degree programme, which will have its first student intake in 2018 (https://www.ucc.ie/en/ck707).

The Department has strength in the diversity of its research activities, which span the breadth of the discipline, from molecular and cellular physiology through reduced experimental approaches, to integrative whole animal and human studies, with interests spanning many organ systems and human diseases, in addition to other interests.

We are particularly interested in candidates with existing, or potential to develop, high-impact, internationally recognised research programmes complementary to one or more areas of strength within the department and/or research within the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centres of the College of Medicine & Health: The APC Microbiome Institute http://www.ucc.ie/research/apc/content/ and INFANT http://www.infantcentre.ie, or similar.

Appointment may be made on the Lectureship Salary Scale:  €33,149 - €58,547/€63,987 - €82,273. In all instances the successful appointment will be at the first point of the scale.
