Public engagement with a difference - get involved in stand-up comedy with PhySoc!
Bright Club is an award-winning project where researchers become comedians for just one night. It has a proven track record of raising audience awareness and influencing attitudes about research and the role of HEIs, whilst developing researchers’ communication skills.
In 2012, The Society is supporting four Bright Club events on the theme of 'Bodies' in Edinburgh, Cardiff, Manchester and Brighton. Each night, four physiologists will perform with two non-physiologist with a professional comedian as host and compere. Bright Club was founded by the UCL Public Engagement Unit and has received coverage from broadsheet newspapers, BBC TV, and the New York Times.
It’s an excellent opportunity for many physiologists to gain experience in sharing their research with a genuine public audience. All performers receive training to develop their presentation and comedy skills. More than 300 researchers have performed at Bright Clubs around the country. The events will raise awareness of physiology and The Society and helps us achieve the aims of The Society’s public engagement and outreach strategy.
We've already had great success in Brighton and Edinburgh, and are now looking for Members to take part in the final two Bright Club: Bodies in Cardiff and Manchester. Please contact our Outreach Manager, Louise Crane on firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to give it a go.
