Non-Society symposium grants
Up to £1500 is available to Ordinary Members of The Physiological Society to organise independent meetings, events and symposia.
The grant scheme aims to encourage Members to organise meetings – on a range of topics and in a variety of geographic locations – to complement the meetings in our event calendar.
Applications for funding are assessed three times a year. Deadlines for submitting grant applications are 31 March, 31 July and 30 November.
As this scheme intends to enhance our existing event calendar, please note that we tend not to support events that are proposed for the same time of year as Society events. Please check before applying. Further information on making an application can be found below.
Applying for a Non-Society symposium grant
Before completing an online application form, please read the following information:
- Applications must be made in advance of the meeting to be funded (typically by six months)
- The maximum grant for Symposia supported under this scheme is £1500
- Grants are not able to be awarded retrospectively
- Applications for funding will be reviewed by the Meetings Committee, who will consider:
–the physiological relevance of the application
–how the proposed symposium furthers the charitable objectives of The Society
–whether a meeting or a particular applicant has been previously awarded funds through the scheme - All Symposia supported under this scheme are to be organised by an Ordinary Member(s) or have an Ordinary Member closely involved with planning
- The scheme is not to be confused with The Society’s Travel Grant Scheme (which Members can apply to for funding towards travel for attendance at meetings)
- The Physiological Society should be recognised for its contribution as either a 'named supporter' of the event, or through a named 'Physiological Society Lecture'. Successful applicants will be sent The Society logo and this should be displayed appropriately
- All Symposia supported under this scheme should make 'concessions' available to those Society Members and Affiliates wishing to attend the meeting (e.g. reduced registration fee)
- All Symposia supported under this scheme will be advertised on The Society's website and in its quarterly magazine, Physiology News. Successful applicants may be asked to provide a short article for the magazine
