Rob Clarke Undergraduate Abstract and Presentation Awards
For the first time in 2012, The Physiological Society will be inviting undergraduates to present their undergraduate research project as a poster at one of its scientific meetings, Physiology 2012, which will be held at Edinburgh on 2-5 July 2012. Prizes, named in honour of the late Dr Rob Clarke, will be awarded independently for the best abstracts and posters presented at the meeting.
Abstracts are welcome from all eligible students, including those who are not Members of The Society. Students can submit an abstract by completing the application form, which must be emailed to education@physoc.org by 15 April 2012.
The abstracts will then be considered by Members of The Society’s Education and Outreach Committee, and those students selected for the Rob Clarke Undergraduate Abstract Award will be notified by the middle of May. They will be invited to present their work as a poster at Physiology 2012 and will also receive the following:
• A certificate of award
• Free membership of The Physiological Society for one year
• Eligibility to apply for a travel grant award of up to £200 to attend Physiology 2012
At the meeting, the posters will be judged by a review panel and the best will be presented with the Rob Clarke Undergraduate Presentation Award.
Before submitting their abstract, students are advised to read the following Terms and Conditions very carefully:
Terms and Conditions
- Work must have been carried out as an undergraduate. Research undertaken after graduation would not be eligible.
- Recent (first year) postgraduates can also submit an abstract, but their research must have been completed as an undergraduate and their higher status will be taken into account in the judging process.
- Research projects must be physiological in nature and should be laboratory based, although consideration may be given to projects where appropriate experimental data was collected outside of the laboratory environment.
- The supervisor must approve the abstract being submitted for presentation at Physiology 2012.
- The abstract must have been written by the student.
- The abstract must be in the same format as other abstracts for Physiology 2012.
- If the student is successful and receives a travel grant award to support their attendance at Physiology 2012, they must return any funds they have received if they do not attend the meeting.
- The poster must follow the same guidelines as other posters for Physiology 2012.
