The Physiological Society's archive documents The Society's activities from its foundation in 1876. It is held in the Wellcome Library in London and available to all.
The collection contains minute books from 1876 and proposal books for candidates from 1888 to the present. It also includes administrative papers, proceedings of scientific meetings and files of individual officers, as well as annual reports, finance records and information on our membership, policy and education activities.
The archive also includes The Society's photographic collection started by HE Lewis in his role as official photographer for The Society and developed by Martin Rosenberg. The collection contains many photographs taken by Members and others.
This material is held in the Wellcome Library in London and is available to all researchers (with the exception of some material which requires The Society's permission before access). A full catalogue of the collection can be found on the Wellcome Library's website. To access the collection you are required to become a member of the Wellcome Library and complete an additional undertaking form. Archive items are held in closed stacks and need to be ordered.
The Society's Honorary Archivist is Professor Tilli Tansey OBE (Queen Mary, University of London).
There is a History & Archives Committe (whose remit is outlined on a separate web page). General enquiries for the attention of the Committee can be addressed to Jonathan Goodchild at firstname.lastname@example.org.
