The Society celebrates physiology throughout the year with appearance at many of the UK’s key sciences festivals and fairs. Many of our partner socieities and Members also often require the invaluable services of volunteers.

Working groups and volunteer opportunities

FunKids Radio
Through our Public Engagement Grant we have funded the production 10 short audio clips, each three minutes in length on what physiology is and what physiologist do. The clips will go out on Fun Kids http://www.funkidslive.com/ a radio station for children and their families, as well as being made available on both the Understanding Life and the Fun Kids websites. They are aimed at a Key Stage 2 audience.

To ensure the accuracy and quality of the clips we are calling on Member to be part of a working group to assist the grant holder. Working group expectations would involve being a sounding board for the project through emails and phone calls, advising on the direction of the subject matter of the clips, and reviewing short scripts for accuracy. The time commitment involved would be minimal. Email outreach@physoc.org for more information.

As part of the festivities of Biology Week we have our very own day! We call on all our Members to help showcase the important and amazing discoveries of the science of life. Hold an open day in your lab, put on an exhibition, organise a public lecture or debate, visit schools or local community groups, bake a cake, write a poem, start a social media campaign, do all you can to spread your passion for the science of life.

Interested in getting involved? The Society is happy to organise partnerships, if you are interested in putting on an event, or would like to organise a visit to a school email outreach@physoc.org.  Funding is also available through our Outreach Grant Scheme.

Call for proposals: 2017 The neurobiology of stress

The Physiological Society is committed to supporting our Members in communicating their work to wider audiences. We believe an engaged cohort of young people, and a well-informed public is key to ensuring a new generation of high quality physiologists and continued excellence in physiological research. Through The Society’s themed year we aim to shine a public spotlight on different areas of Member research and show its relevance to people’s lives. Our call for proposal to be involved with focus on stress is now open.
