Society archive

The Physiological Society’s archive documents The Society’s activities from its foundation in 1876.  It is held in the Wellcome Library in London and available to all.

The collection contains minute books from 1876 and proposal books for candidates from 1888 to the present. It also includes administrative papers, proceedings of scientific meetings and files of individual officers, as well as annual reports, finance records and information on our membership, policy and education activities.

The archive also includes The Society’s photographic collection started by HE Lewis in his role as official photographer for The Society and developed by Martin Rosenberg. The collection contains many photographs taken by Members and others. The Society’s Honorary Archivist is Professor Tilli Tansey OBE.

This material is held in the Wellcome Library in London and is available to all researchers (with the exception of some material which requires The Society’s permission before access). A full catalogue of the collection can be found on the Wellcome Library’s website.
