A postdoctoral position financed by FAPESP (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo), for a period of 48 months, is available at the Department of Internal Medicine (Division of Cardiology) from the Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil.

The researcher will conduct the project titled: "Prediction of the evolution of Chagas disease through the analysis of heart rate variability". This study aims to identify the changes in heart rate variability detected in individuals chronically infected by the T. cruzi, running with the indeterminate and cardiac forms of Chagas disease, that constitute the best prognostic indices of clinical evolution of this disease. For this purpose, several indices of heart rate variability will be used, from different families of methods, namely: statistical methods (time domain), spectral analysis (frequency domain), physiological complexity measurements, self-similarity analysis (fractality) of time series, study of symbolic dynamics and quantification of chaotic dynamics.

The applicant is expected to:

(1) Hold a PhD in Sciences;

(2) Be aware of the procedures necessary for recording and processing the human electrocardiogram;

(3) To have experience with analysis of heart rate variability, especially with the evaluation of cardiovascular complexity, by measuring parameters such as entropies for short time series, detrended fluctuation analysis and analysis of symbolic dynamics applied to heart rate variability;

(4) Experience using statistical methods of correlation and classification of data, especially with machine learning algorithms, such as artificial neural networks, decision trees, instance-based classifiers, among others;

(5) Computer Programming skills (Java, C/C++, Matlab or other equivalent informatics language).
