THE ROLE
Postdoctoral in Ageing, Epigenetics & Exercise at Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia.
PURPOSE
They currently require a full-time research officer or postdoctoral fellow on a 24-month contract to join the Genetics & Epigenetics of Exercise research group. The purpose of this role is to continue their research in the topic of Epigenetics, Ageing, and Exercise. You will join their research team focusing on understanding the role of epigenetics in ageing & exercise adaptations, and sex differences in response to exercise.
The Research Officer or Research Fellow will ensure that the project is conducted to the highest standard. The position will be based at Victoria University’s iHeS facility at Footscray Park but may also require travel to other campuses. Please see details below for major duties of this position.
MAJOR DUTIES
In performing the following duties, you are required to comply with quality assurance policies and procedures, and other relevant legislative requirements applicable to the University. The major duties to be performed are:
- Undertake quality academic research, typically in collaboration with research students and/or research staff.
- Publish papers, articles and reports in high-impact academic publications, including journals, and conference proceedings.
- Assist with supervision of research undergraduate/interns, honours, Masters, and PhD students working on individual or group projects.
- Prepare and submit external grant applications, and develop external research collaborations and partnerships.
- Attend conferences, workshops and other professional development activities if deemed relevant by the supervisor.
- Contribute to the development of the University’s research culture, through the promotion, conduct and facilitation of research and publications.
- Liaise with college and institute staff and other research groups internally and externally.
- Ensure that the work for which they are responsible aligns with the OHS of staff, students, visitors and contractors.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential:
- Knowledge and Training equivalent to a PhD qualification in bioinformatics, genetics/epigenetics, molecular and cell biology.
- Demonstrated outstanding research publication record.
- Experience in bioinformatics (preferably DNA methylation, RNA-seq, or proteomics), and in R coding.
- Experience in some of the following cell and molecular biological techniques such as RNA-sequencing, epigenetic array/sequencing, cell culture and proteomics.
- Demonstrated capacity for undertaking independent and/or team research, including developing, conducting and leading research projects.
- Demonstrated track record of successful research grants.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Capacity to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment and contribute to the work of the research team, and external collaborators.
