The Physiological Society has confirmed that all its journals offer compliance with the new Research Councils UK (RCUK) guidance, published 6 March and coming into effect on 1 April.
The Journal of Physiology, Experimental Physiology and The Society’s new open access journal Physiological Reports all meet RCUK’s requirements on gold and green open access routes and copyright licensing.
Mike Shipston, Chair of The Society’s Publications Committee, said: “Our journals have always sought to accommodate the needs of research scientists and funders around the world, and we are very pleased to confirm that all our journals are compliant with RCUK’s new guidance.
“All articles published in The Journal of Physiology and Experimental Physiology, are made free to access after an embargo period of 12 months, but the journals also offer a gold open access route for those who wish to make their article available to non-subscribers immediately upon publication. Through Physiological Reports we are now offering a dedicated open access journal for all areas of physiology.”
The Society has been working with its publishing partner, Wiley, to implement post-acceptance services that help authors in identifying appropriate routes of publication and licences relevant to their funding situation.
Open access publication in The Journal of Physiology incurs an article processing charge of $3000 per accepted article and Experimental Physiology charges $2250. The article processing charge for Physiological Reports is $1500, but charges are being waived for the first 100 accepted articles.
