We are delighted to announce the third edition of The Biomedical Basis of Elite Performance, which will return in 2022 as an in-person conference. 

The meeting will provide an overview of the physiological responses to exercise, in the context of human adaptation and performance, and the central role that biomedical science is playing in directing understanding in this area. The programme will cover cardiovascular, neuronal, and neuromuscular physiology, along with molecular and cellular metabolism, and the application of transformative methods in human physiology.

  • Case study
  • Systematic reviews (including qualitative research)
  • Technical paper (e.g. methods)

It is important that the following are included:

  • Appropriate statistical analysis including n numbers
  • Appropriate structure including intro, aims/objectives, method, results and conclusions
  • Compliance with ethical standards

Submitting your abstract

The Society’s abstract management platform is Firebird Conferences Systems.

You will need to log in or sign up for an account to submit an abstract on the Firebird submission site. If you have submitted an abstract on the Firebird submission site before, such as for Future Physiology 2020 or 2021, you can log in using these details.

Travel

University Park is easily accessible from Nottingham City Centre, with excellent public transport links.  

Tram

Nottingham Express Transit’s (NET) tram service links University Park campus directly to Nottingham city centre – including Nottingham train station.  

The nearest tram stop to the conference venue is University of Nottingham. From there it is an approximately 13-minute walk. 

Adult single and day tickets are available to purchase with a debit/credit card by tapping on a lime green validator as well as via the NETGO! App or by using the ticket vending machines.  

Other tickets must be purchased via the NETGO! app or by using the ticket vending machines at any tram stop. The NET service operates a “buy before you board” policy.

Bus

There are a number of bus services linking the city centre with University Park campus. Some services run through University Park campus (34 and 36U) and other services stop close to University Park campus on University Boulevard (Eighteen, Indigo, Skylink).

Accommodation

We do not have a specific conference hotel so that attendees are able to choose accommodation which meets their needs and budgets.  

There is a hotel on the University site – De Vere Orchard Hotel – which is a short walk to the Monica Partridge Building. 

Alternatively, you may wish to stay in the city centre where more amenities are available. You can find accommodation suggestions on the Visit Nottinghamshire website.
