The Deanery of Biomedical Sciences wishes to appoint three Lectureships in Biomedical Sciences. The Lectureships will incorporate balanced contributions across the breadth of our Biomedical Sciences research-led education and research portfolios.

The Opportunity:

The Deanery of Biomedical Sciences University of Edinburgh is an exciting, vibrant research-led academic community offering opportunities to work with leading international academics whose visions are shaping tomorrow’s world and training global Biomedical leaders of the future. These posts are aimed at individuals of the highest potential who have a proven commitment to university level learning and teaching and who have begun to establish a reputation for quality research in their discipline.

You will be expected to contribute to the portfolio of learning and teaching overseen by the Biomedical Teaching Organization (BMTO) in Edinburgh Medical School: Biomedical Sciences, including the design, development and delivery of teaching and assessment across all 4 years of our undergraduate programmes. The expectation is that learning and teaching contributions will span the breadth of the biomedical sciences delivered through our core courses in early undergraduate years, as well as more specialised teaching in our Honours and postgraduate course portfolios.

You will be expected to develop and maintain an independent research programme that complements research priorities in the Deanery of Biomedical Sciences, evidenced by publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals and the ability to (or potential to) obtain external grant funding.

The post requires a PhD in a subject relevant to Biomedical Sciences with demonstrable excellent communication, presentation and organisational skills. Experience in teaching in a Higher Education Institution with evidence of innovation in teaching delivery and assessment in areas relevant to the Biomedical portfolio is a requirement. A postgraduate teaching qualification, experience in quantitative/data skills training and/or previous engagement with innovation in laboratory practical teaching and experiential learning are desirable.

Postholders will be supported and mentored to develop their academic careers across research-led teaching, research group development & funding support, leadership, management and citizenship.  The posts are available with immediate effect and it is expected that successful applicants will be in post by no later than 1 August 2023.

Applications including a detailed CV, a one-page statement explaining teaching experience and ethos and a one-page outline of a proposed research programme should be made online here to meet the closing date. In addition to the formal interview, all interviewees will be required to give a presentation to the panel. Further information will be provided along with the invitation to interview.

  • PhD (or equivalent) in a Biomedical Sciences discipline.
  • Experience in teaching in a Higher Education Institution with evidence of innovation in teaching delivery and assessment in areas relevant to the Biomedical portfolio.
