In recent years The Society has invested more resources into offering professional development support designed to address career challenges or upskill members. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the need for online content covering a wide range of topics. This has taught us a lot about the broad range of skills a physiologist requires, and The Society’s role in offering support beyond what’s available at a member’s institution.
Changing the way members access career support
The Physiological Society has launched a new Training Hub to support members to unlock their potential and advance their careers and it’s all in one place.
The launch of the Training Hub marks a commitment to provide the support that is essential to progression in a physiology related career, and is a priority in the Society’s 2023-2027 strategy. It provides us with a foundation to support decision-making and resource allocation for the career support we offer.
The Training Hub provides a space to navigate relevant resources, some of which members may not have engaged with before, and browse upcoming training sessions. We have created a brand which will become familiar to members as a key member benefit.
How the Training Hub can support you
The Training Hub can help you to:
• Plan your career next steps
• Improve your teaching
• Develop your research skills
The Training Hub homepage will keep you up to date with what’s new or topical. The resource library hosts resources for members from on-demand webinars, cheat sheets and templates on topics such as publishing, funding and career planning. The development of content and opportunities showcased on the Training Hub is tailored by members for members, to best support the communities we serve.
Upcoming live workshops and webinars will be available to book via the Hub as an opportunity for members to learn new skills and build their networks. Members get free access to webinars and discounted rates for workshops. This includes techniques workshops, and focused webinars to help overcome career challenges with like-minded members.
A spotlight on Education and Teaching
The Society’s strategy also sets out our intention to strengthen our support for physiology education in the UK. Through the Training Hub, we are offering ‘go to’ video resources to support new lecturers teaching basic systems physiology, with the first set of videos focusing on the cardiovascular system. These are designed to help lecturers communicate key concepts effectively to students, offering useful analogies to consider for their teaching and solutions to address common misconceptions amongst students.
