A post-doctoral researcher is sought to work on control of blood flow by capillary pericytes and endothelial cells in the kidney and heart. The work will use 2-photon and confocal imaging, laser speckle flowmetry, and patch-clamping techniques to follow up on our previous work showing that after ischaemia pericytes constrict renal and coronary capillaries, thus reducing blood flow (Freitas & Attwell, 2022, eLife; O’Farrell, Mastitskaya…Attwell, 2017, eLife).
Initially funded by a Rosetrees Trust grant for 1 year this position has the potential to be continued on a Wellcome Trust award working on brain pericytes and neuronal-glial-vasculature interactions (Nortley, Korte..Attwell, 2019, Science; Lezmy..Attwell, 2021, Science).
The starting salary should be at least £42,674 including London allowance, and the post will be held in a friendly and diverse group of about 10 people.
