Gavin Pinniger passed away in April 2023. He was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Western Australia. His undergraduate studies in human movement and biomechanics led to a career researching skeletal muscle function in health and disease. A major focus of his research was investigating skeletal muscle dysfunction in various animal models of human muscle diseases, such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and studying the impact of clinically relevant perinatal exposures on the structural and functional development of the diaphragm. He was fascinated by the molecular processes of eccentric muscle contractions and how they contribute to exercise-induced muscle damage and adaptation.
