Nominate an Honorary Fellow

Deadline Extended: Thursday 18 September 2025 (12 noon)

We award Honorary Fellowship to individuals who are ‘persons of distinction in science who have contributed to the advancement of physiology’. These may be awarded to any individual, not just current members. Please note that current Trustees are ineligible to be nominated.

You can view a full listing of our current Honorary Fellows here. The award is intended for those who have demonstrable eminence and impact in/on physiology in any specialism. The awardees’ contribution can include research, teaching, promotion and dissemination and other such areas, for example policy, but will be of established status and reputation and have made a substantial impact.

The deadline for Honorary Fellows nominations is 27 August for consideration by the Nominations Committee at their Autumn meeting. There is no set quota for the number of Honorary Fellows elected in a given year.

We recognise that the assessment of distinction and impact is subjective and requires a level of judgement. However, in support of a fair, transparent and systematic approach, the Nominations Committee will make the appropriate assessment solely in context of information provided via the nominations form.

Please ensure when completing the form:

  • The proposing member is currently a Full, Honorary or Fellow Member of the Society
  • The form is completed clearly, in full, and according to the instructions
  • All information relevant to the nomination is completed on the form and not attached as supplementary documentation
  • It is explicitly evidenced how the candidate meets the criteria of distinction and how their work has impacted the advancement of physiology

We are committed to equity, inclusion and diversity and encourage expressions of interest from all communities and backgrounds. As such, applications are particularly welcome from those traditionally under-represented.

The President will write to both the successful candidates and their proposers. In the case that a nomination is not recommended to the Board for award, only the proposer will be notified.

Only Full, Honorary and Fellow Members are eligible to submit a nomination.
