  • Date

    Thu 01 - Fri 02 Apr 2027

  • Location

    University of Sussex, UK

This two-day meeting aims to explore the developing needs of both students and educators in the changing landscape of higher education. The meeting will contribute to defining and understanding the challenges faced by the early career educator, as well as discuss ways of providing better support. We will also address challenges, from how to manage students’ needs in a post-COVID-19 environment, to navigating the impact of the rapid rise of AI in an education setting.

There will be a focus on the following four themes:

  • Developing a sustainable and effective career in physiology
  • Addressing students’ needs in a changing education landscape
  • Public engagement and policy as physiologists
  • Climate change and curriculum change

For more detailed information, application forms and guidance notes, please visit the official UK visa website.

It is recommended that you apply for your visa well in advance (at least 12 weeks before the meeting) as applications for UK visas in certain countries can take longer than expected. The conference organisers cannot be held responsible if delegates do not receive their visas in time, and the cancellation policy will automatically apply. Every effort will be made to support genuine applications. The conference organisers are happy to provide you with documentation to support your application which will be sent as a PDF attachment. If you require a hard copy to be sent to you, please include your mailing (postal) address. The Physiological Society will only send via regular post.

Documentation to support visa applications will only be provided to those attendees who have registered to attend.

Please complete the webform below, and attach confirmation of your registration, and submitted abstract (if appropriate).

Abstracts

Abstract submission will open on 26 October 2026.

We are calling for abstracts for submission as either oral, flash talk or poster communications.

Submissions may be describing finished projects, projects currently underway but results have not yet been gathered, pitching ideas for future projects, canvassing for others to become involved in projects or sharing potential new ideas. Submissions from all attendees are welcome and presentation by any student collaborators or co-creators on a project are encouraged.

Submissions should provide a title, names of the presenter/s and description of your topic (up to 150-words) for your presentation to be considered. These communications can be based on the conference themes but talks on other topics are welcome.

The conference themes are as follows:

Conference themes

  1. Developing a sustainable and effective career in physiology
  2. Addressing students’ needs in a changing education landscape
  3. Public engagement and policy as physiologists
  4. Climate change and curriculum change

Workshops

Submission to facilitate a workshop will open on 26 October 2026.

We invite proposals for interactive workshops (of 75-minutes duration) that explore current and emerging priorities for physiology education. We invite proposals which align broadly with one or more of the conference themes.

Submissions should provide a clear workshop title and brief description (100-150 words) of how the session will be structured. Where possible, workshops should prioritise active participation, discussion, and collaboration. We also particularly encourage applications with involvement of student collaborators or co-creators where possible.

We welcome any inquiries regarding the remit of the workshops, and the conference organisers are happy to discuss your proposals with you in further detail.
