Collecting feedback from a variety of sources can lead to improving student opinion and ultimately teaching practice. In this presentation, I will review practical ways of gathering feedback and how the results can be utilised to enhance student educational experience and to enhance teaching practice. This will include self-reflection, student opinion and engagement, external review (via peer observation and supervisory role) and performance outcomes of students (exam marks and coursework grades). The goal of gathering feedback is to improve quality and influence programme structure and design as well as individual teaching practice. Effective feedback provides instruction and correction, improves motivation that can prompt increased effort and should be perceived as valuable to the recipient but also to the provider. In many institutions, it may also be used as evidence to support promotional applications and in performance management reviews.
