We are delighted to announce the winners of our biggest ever schools competition, The Science of Sport: How to Win Gold. In this competition, A-Level students were given an opportunity to direct their own sports physiology research project and present their findings to The Society. Shortlisted students were invited to present their work at The Society’s scientific meeting, The Biomedical Basis of Elite Performance, in London on 20 March 2012. Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes were awarded to the best projects on the day.
The quality of the students’ ideas and poster presentations hugely impressed the judges, who awarded Gold prize to a team at Northgate High School in Suffolk for their project: ‘The effect of video imagery on sports performance.’ They won a Train Like a Champion Day at an English Institute of Sport High Performance Centre. Congratulations go to all the winners – details of whom are available here.
The Society would like to extend its thanks to Dr Valerie Gladwell at the University of Essex, for her invaluable contribution to the development and success of this competition, as well as all the judges and mentors who offered their time and expertise.
