On 6 October 2014, The Physiological Society signed up to the Science Council’s Declaration on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion, making a public commitment to ensure our activities help and support increased diversity and inclusion within the science community. The Science Council’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion project is being led by a Strategy group chaired by James Smith (Chair of the Carbon Trust, Chair of Advisory Board for the Association for Black Engineers in the UK, Former Chairman of Shell UK). At its last meeting The Society’s Council appointed two Trustees, Sue Deuchars and Rachel Tribe, to lead on this working closely with Philip Wright (Chief Executive). The aim is to assess whether The Society supports diversity effectively across all our activities and identify actions to support diversity, equality and inclusion in our membership, The Society and the physiological community more broadly.
