Intracellular pH and its regulation – Roger Thomas (p.24)
It is perhaps hard to get excited about intracellular pH. All agree pH, is biochemically important. But physiologically? Perhaps that’s its problem – it falls between two subjects. Protein shape, enzyme activity, even channel selectivities are influenced by the free hydrogen ion, or proton, concentration. But most physiologists find pH, boring, and refuse to worry about it.
