Exemplary Service to the Society Award
The Exemplary Service Award was established in 2020 to recognise long and valued service by a Member to the Physiological Society. Care must be taken to ensure only the most deserving are recommended for this honour to retain its value as a prestigious award.
Who is eligible?
- This award is only open to current Members of the Physiological Society
- Trustees shall not normally be eligible to receive the Award whilst in office
- Non-members and past Members of the Physiological Society are not eligible for this award
What is the award?
Through this award the Board of Trustees aims to recognise the outstanding service of a Member volunteer whose input is over and above that which would normally be expected of a person in that position.
This award is given on an occasional basis at the discretion of the Board of Trustees or upon recommendation to the Board of Trustees by the Nominations Committee.
Recipients of the award through their consistent volunteering will have made significant, sustained, and impactful contributions to The Society and the discipline of physiology during their career. In doing so they will have raised the importance and profile of physiology.
Substantial contributions may include:
- Effective leadership of, or exemplary contributions to, a committee or task force
- Advocacy on behalf of the Physiological Society (TPS) or the creation or strengthening of TPS relationships with other groups
- Significant contributions to the creation of a new programme within TPS or to the expansion, or adoption, of programmes and services for Members
Restrictions
- A Trustee cannot be put forward for nomination if currently a Trustee
- When a Trustee stands down there should be an embargo period of a year before they can be nominated for this award
- It is not possible for a Member to be given this award and the President’s Lecture Prize Medal or the Annual Public Lecture in the same year
- An individual can normally only receive this award once
