It is well recognized that the C-terminal domains of many proteins are important for directing them to heir correct cellular destination. Molecular genetic and cellular investigations of patients with a variety of inherited conditions that result from trafficking and targeting abnormalities have provided insights into the normal behaviour of membrane and other compartment residents. This talk will illustrate a range of such mechanisms that are of particular importance in the kidney, set in the context of a specialist multidisciplinary clinical service.
