Immunophysiology: Exploring the Roles of the Immune System in Physiological Homeostasis and Disease

  • Date

    Mon 28 - Tue 29 Jun 2027

  • Location

    University College Dublin, Ireland

Understanding how the immune system interacts with multiple organ systems to maintain physiological homeostasis and how its dysregulation drives disease, remains a central focus within physiological research. These complex interactions not only dictate healthy baseline function but also provide valuable insights into a wide range of pathologies, including neurodegenerative disorders, metabolic diseases, and respiratory conditions, where inflammation takes centre stage.

As scientific understanding expands, increasing knowledge is emerging regarding the powerful role played by the microbiome in modulating the physiological functions of diverse organs. The intricate axes connecting the gut, lungs, and brain highlight how inflammatory processes and microbial ecosystems influence everything from neurogenesis and respiratory health to full-body metabolic reprogramming. Consequently, uncovering the mechanisms behind immunomodulation, diet, and lifestyle has never been more urgent for addressing acute and chronic non-transmissible illnesses.

Bringing together basic and clinical researchers working across a diverse range of organ systems, this conference will highlight how advances in any of these areas of Immunophysiology can benefit the wider physiology research community to address modern health crises.
