Part one – Masterclass in Writing Successful Grants, with Scriptoria
This is a two-part workshop split over two days; the second workshop will take place on Thursday 25 April 2024, booking both days is required to complete the full workshop.
Scriptoria’s masterclass in Grant Writing is aimed at early-career researchers in physiology who are looking to build their track record and fund their independent research by winning their first small awards, fellowships and project grants. No previous funding experience is required.
Over two sessions, we discuss with participants how to put ideas for new projects into a written proposal that is interesting and easy for reviewers to understand. We go through the core sections of a proposal, discussing the appropriate content and level of detail in each. Throughout, we use real-life example text from proposals in the field of physiology to complement the theory. The course also covers a host of practical points from budgeting to brainstorming tools to the professional writing and editing cycle – building strategic skills to draft, edit and deliver a high-quality document under tight deadlines. In order for the session to be as tailored to physiologists as possible, the Trainers ask to be sent 3-5 draft/previously submitted proposals to relevant funders of interest for the group. Unsuccessful proposals are useful in addition to successful ones. Please rest assured that:
- No materials will be shared outside the course
- Only short excerpts of proposals will be used for in-course exercises
- Any names/financial information will be redacted
- All ‘critiques’ of the text will be focused on identifying the strong points in the text as well as constructive ideas for further improvement
If, when registering for this course, you have a sample application that you are happy to share with us, please let us know, and we will contact you accordingly.
