Paper to be discussed: Impaired skeletal muscle fatigue resistance during cardiac hypertrophy is prevented by functional overload- or exercise-induced functional capillarity (Peter G. Tickle, Paul W. Hendrickse, Andrew Weightman, M. Hakam Nazir, Hans Degens, Stuart Egginton) The Journal of Physiology DOI 10.1113/JP281377

In this Virtual Journal Club, host Thibaux Van der Stede discussed the manuscript with lead authors Dr Peter Tickle and Dr Paul Hendrickse. The host first introduced the selected paper, followed by a 15-minute presentation by the lead authors on the background, main methodology, and findings of the study.

Dr Caroline A Rickards, University of North Texas Health Science Center, USA, representative from The Journal of Physiology spoke about the key factors that led to the acceptance of this paper in The Journal. After this overview, the panel further discussed the findings in the context of physical exercise as therapeutic aid for chronic diseases, including a Q&A session with the audience of this Virtual Journal Club.

Immediately following the session, there was an informal 30-minute networking session, with the opportunity for attendees to meet and further discuss the study’s findings and future directions.
