The Society is sad to hear of the death of member Roger Ramsbottom who died in February 2023. Roger was Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology at Oxford Brookes University and a Fellow of BASES (The British Association of Sports and Exercise Sciences). He was a keen runner and mountain climber who dedicated his career to researching the musculoskeletal system and aerobic fitness during exercise and sporting performance. Roger studied the relationships between oxygen uptake and muscle fibre composition in athletes, and investigated the effect of training on physiological and metabolic responses. He also published research testing the ability of the circulatory and respiratory systems during exercise and different concentrations of nutrients and minerals. He is highly regarded among the sport and exercise sciences community.
