The commonest of all pathological processes in the body is that of inflammation.
This is a reaction to injury as in an abscess where there is localised pain and heat with reddening of the skin due to accumulated cells from the blood stream. Invading bacteria and eventually damaged tissues are removed by special scavenging cells known as macrophages.
