Job Purpose and Background |
|
The Physiological Society, whose purpose is to support the science, teaching and understanding of physiology, has three highly successful scientific publications: The Journal of Physiology, Experimental Physiology and Physiological Reports.
The Editorial Administrator will provide vital support to the publications team, from editorial board administration and journal statistics and reporting to general office admin. |

Principal Objectives and Responsibilities |
|
· Editorial board administration: Issuing invitations, organising society memberships, updating listings. Assisting with organisation of Editorial Board meetings, including venue, travel and accommodation arrangements, help with preparation of board papers, minutes and follow-up and handling of Editorial Board expenses. · Journal Homepages – updating homepage and hub on Wiley with each new issue and additionally as necessary. · Administration of The Society’s Publications Committee (shared with the Editorial Administrator of The journal of Physiology): To prepare agendas, collate and distribute papers, take and distribute minutes and perform other ad hoc duties required by the Chair of the Committee. · Journal reporting & statistics: To assist the Managing Editors with preparation of reports, compilation of journal statistics and other ad hoc tasks. · Peer review administration: To assist the publications team with administering the peer review of submitted manuscripts across the journals as required. · Journal production: checking author’s proof corrections, adding subject tags, checking for image manipulation. · Promoting readership: Publicizing individual articles published in the journals, through social media and providing appropriate content for Publisher email newsletters. · Helping identify articles suitable for Press Release and writing Press releases with the help of the Society Marketing dept. · Selecting content for and creating Virtual issues. · Creating Video slideshows for Symposium introductions · Investigating and administrating of publication ethics cases: To assist the Managing Editors with investigating any ethical issues related to any of the journals’ manuscripts, creating and keeping a log of ethics cases across the journals and helping with collation of evidence. · Administration of Journal prizes – collating entries, organising panel for decision and liaising with prize winners. · General office administration: To provide general administrative support to the Director of Publications and the publications team Managing Editors, answering general emails, letters and phone calls, scheduling meetings, arranging travel and accommodation and any other such tasks necessary to the smooth running of the publications activities. · Society activities: To provide support to other areas of Society activity as required. |
