The Society is delighted to announce the three winners of the Education and Teaching Award, designed to support members wishing to develop new educational resources or conduct a piece of publishable educational research that addresses a key question in physiological education.
Paul McKeegan (University of Hull, UK)
Project title: Student-led practical physiology in MBBS medicine

Receiving the Physiological Society Education and Teaching Award in 2024 is enabling me to develop, in collaboration with students, a new set of exciting, engaging, digital and practical physiology resources focussed on teaching physiology and its vital role in medical education and practice, from ECGs to neuroprosthetics. I have frequently turned to resources prepared by The Society members to support my teaching, and this award will enable me to develop as a physiology educator and to pay this forward by sharing new resources aligned to The Society’s Physiological Objective for Medical Students with the international physiology community.
Catriona Cunningham (University of Aberdeen, UK)
Project title: Developing online interactive case studies to support physiology teaching

I’m most excited to have received this award because it will allow us to support two undergraduate students as co-creators through funded summer studentships.
Matthew Jacques (University of Nottingham, UK)
Project title: Authentic and Innovative Assessment in Physiology Education

I am really excited to begin this Education and Teaching Award on Authentic Assessment in Physiology Education, as part of my wider work on Assessment and Feedback in Physiology Education. I hope that this work will help to facilitate discussions surrounding perceptions, barriers and enablers experienced by physiology educators in relation to Authentic Assessments, and promote the sharing of best practice.
