With UK astronaut Tim Peake’s mission to the International Space Station and ‘Ageing’ being The Physiological Society’s theme in 2015, Professor Steve Harridge (King’s College London) will be giving a talk at the Association for Science Education’s Annual Conference on Friday 9 January about the challenges of prolonged space flight on the body.
As part of the Biology in the Real World lecture series aimed at enhancing teachers’ understanding of how biological concepts are applied in research today, Professor Harridge will outline how exposure to a micro gravity environment impacts on human physiology. Bringing in the findings of his latest research, he will focus particularly on skeletal muscle – to compare and contrast changes in space with those associated with the ageing process here on earth.
The talk is being co-sponsored by The Physiological Society and Society of Biology, and will take place at the University of Reading’s Palmer Building, Room 109, at 11.30 on 9 January.
A programme of all the talks is available to download here.
