The Physiological Society is pleased to be launching our new and improved array of grant schemes. The programme, which will be rolled out during the 2021/22 academic year, is tailored to stages along an academic career path and is designed to recognise member loyalty.
The grants programme provides funding opportunities for all career stages and has been built to facilitate the professional development of our members. We look forward to receiving members’ applications and their continued engagement with The Physiological Society.
For information about the new schemes, including eligibility criteria and deadlines, please visit the grants section of our website.
The Society prides itself on offering funds for a range of activities to support members and the new schemes will continue to do this.
The new programme is an evolution of those that members are familiar with, although there is now greater focus on professional development throughout the career.
Aside from supporting attendance at Society and Society-supported meetings and running many types of engagement events at members’ institutions, we have a suite of career development awards that will be available to members as they move through the different membership categories, and ultimately, their careers as physiologists.
As part of the new grants programme, we will launch two fellowship schemes that recognise excellence in research, teaching and outreach/public understanding of physiology and supports the career development of individuals on academic paths. These schemes are called the Momentum Fellowship and Accelerator Fellowship.
To help members navigate these new grants, we have created a Frequently Asked Questions page specifically for the new programme. Please get in touch with the grants team at edufunding@physoc.org with any outstanding questions.
Alongside the new programme, we will provide additional professional development support in grant writing and evaluation. We hope this will improve the success of members applying for these, and other funding opportunities.
We will be offering feedback to anyone that made it to interview stage and we will also be facilitating and encouraging peer-support groups for those who have had similar experiences so that members can learn and grow collectively from each other.
Members’ feedback on the grants will be very valuable to us and will be at the heart of how the new scheme is evaluated and will assist The Society in making important decisions about how the grants scheme evolves.
