Commenting on reports that the UK considering holding back on taking forward association to Horizon Europe, Dariel Burdass, Chief Executive of The Physiological Society, said:
“Over the last few years, scientists based in the UK have watched with increasing dismay as the country remains locked out of Horizon Europe.
“Just last month, the Government reiterated its position that it was seeking association with Horizon Europe and stated that it would ‘continue to do everything we can to secure this’.
“Following agreement over the Northern Ireland Protocol, through the Windsor Framework, UK researchers are now looking to the government to reiterate its commitment to rapidly progress with talks to deliver full UK participation in Horizon Europe.
“This is the best outcome for our members and for all of UK R&D. The UK failing to associate with Horizon Europe would be a ‘lose-lose’ outcome for both the UK and EU.
“UK research has already endured such a long delay and it’s now time to get the UK’s membership of Horizon Europe over the finish line.”
