For Teachers & Lecturers
We offer school teachers and HE lecturers a wide range of resources and opportunities to support and enhance the teaching of physiology.
Schools and Further Education
The Society provides teachers with a range of activities and resources to enhance teaching and learning of physiology in schools and FE colleges. More information about these is available on our educational website, www.understanding-life.org, which primarily focusses on supporting teaching and learning of physiology at ages 11-19.
The Society offers individuals actively involved in teaching at universities the opportunity to join our Education and Teaching Theme, which is a network of professionals who share an interest in developing and delivering excellent undergraduate physiology teaching. The Theme promotes activities that support these interests. These include:
- Teaching- and education-related symposia at The Society’s annual main meeting
- Informal workshops to share best practice and encourage discussion of new developments in teaching
- Identifying opportunities to discuss and influence teaching-related policy both within the discipline and more widely within Higher Education
Travel grant funding is offered to Members to support their attendance at these events and other educational workshops and conferences.
The Society also awards a teaching prize annually to recognise an individual’s contribution to teaching undergraduate physiology and teaching grants for physiologists in a teaching-focussed position to carry out educational research or develop an educational resource.
